Rhythm — routines, focus, and reviews
From taking medication to focused work: choose what to do today, record what you did, and look back on your week or month.
Open Rhythm
- Today: choose a date in the weekly strip, record a planned routine, or start focusing.
- Routines: add templates, set repetition, create packs, and manage paused routines.
- Records: see routine and focus history, plus weekly and monthly reviews. Your existing daily and monthly quick records are here too.
- If you see a message that Rhythm is being prepared, you can still use your existing records. New mobile features and widgets appear in supported app versions.
Open Rhythm from the sidebar on web or desktop, or from the full menu on mobile. The former Log address still works. If you hid the menu on web or desktop, show it again in Settings. Active routines are limited to 5 on Free, 30 on Starter and 100 on Pro; routine packs to 1, 5 and 20 respectively. Archived routines do not count until reactivated. Weekly and monthly reviews cover the last 30 days, 365 days and all dates respectively. Focus timers and access to raw records remain available on every plan.
Start a routine from a template
Choose an activity
Select Add routine and browse Health & care, Food & drink, Exercise & activity, Work & focus, Learning & growth, Home & chores, or Mind & rest. Search 56 templates, including taking medication, having coffee, and exercising, and set up to 28 at once.
Make the schedule yours
Check each routine name, time of day, repetition, and goal before saving. Choose Build manually for an activity that is not listed.
Start with a situation pack
Choose Before work, Start of workday, Work breaks, End of workday, Study time, Self-care, Bedtime, or Weekend chores to configure related routines together. When adding several routines, give the pack a name to prepare an ordered sequence.
Set daily, weekly, or monthly repetition
- Daily: repeat every day or at a chosen interval, such as drinking water each morning.
- Weekly: choose weekdays such as Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or choose a flexible goal such as exercising on three days per week.
- Monthly: select dates, the last day, or an ordinal weekday. A missing date can move to the last day or be skipped that month. Flexible monthly goals are also available.
- Tracking: use a count or duration. Flexible weekly and monthly goals can also count days performed; several entries on the same day count as one day. You can set a smaller goal for the first period.
- Start, end, and timezone: check these in detailed settings. A routine uses its own timezone for execution dates and reminders.
- When you change repetition, the new settings apply from the date shown in the editor. Past goals and records stay intact.
Decide whether the activity belongs on set dates or whether you want to reach a goal within a period. Check the next dates or first period before saving.
Check the week and record progress
- Use Record once for count goals, or Enter time or the focus timer for duration goals. Undo the last record if you added it by mistake.
- Choose Do today on a flexible weekly or monthly goal to put it in today’s time-of-day list. Progress still adds up across the whole period.
- Choose Skip today when resting from a scheduled routine. That day is excluded from the review’s planned count, and packs pass over that step. Recording actual progress again clears the skip.
- Select a past date to record work you already did. Future dates show plans without allowing progress entries.
Select a Monday–Sunday date on Today to see plans and progress. Move to another week or choose a date directly. With larger text on a small screen, scroll the date strip horizontally to reach the other days.
Focus on a task
Choose your focus time
Use the 15, 25, or 50 minute presets, or open focus settings to choose Pomodoro or a free timer. Adjust focus time, short and long breaks, and the number of rounds before a long break.
Link a routine or task
Select a routine in focus settings. Enter at least two characters in the linked task field to find an existing task. Actual focus time is recorded with that task and its project.
Record and take a break
Pauses are excluded, and ending a session records actual focus time. When the timer ends, confirm completion, then start a break or the next focus session yourself. Breaks do not count as focus time.
Run a pack in order
Create your sequence
Choose Create my pack in the routine sequence panel. Select routines in the order you want, set each step’s duration, and use Move up to adjust the order before saving.
Do one step at a time
Start in order opens the first step available today. Vacation days, unscheduled dates, and routines marked Skip today are passed over. Confirm completion when you finish a step. A count-based step records one completion.
Continue to the next step
Choose Continue to the next step to proceed. If you did not perform a step, use Skip this step without recording. The next step never starts automatically.
Reminders and snoozing
Enable Rhythm reminders
Choose Enable reminders in the Rhythm inbox on Today. Allow notification permission for device alerts on web or mobile. A focus-end alert does not complete the timer for you; finish recording it yourself.
Save a time for each routine
Open the reminder and schedule-exception section in routine settings, choose a reminder time, and save it. Both Rhythm reminders and a routine time must be enabled. Completed routines, skipped days, and vacation days are excluded from new routine reminders.
Handle it now or in ten minutes
Dismiss an inbox alert or snooze it for ten minutes. Eligible routines also offer Record once and Skip today. Snooze and dismiss actions on phone notifications open the app to handle the action.
Move one occurrence or take a break
- Move this occurrence: choose the original and destination dates within the next year. The destination must not already contain that routine.
- Rest for a period: set the first and last day. The range is excluded from scheduled occurrences and the review’s planned count.
- You can cancel a reservation while both dates are still current or future and no records exist. Even excluded records keep their history, so their schedules cannot be changed or cancelled.
- End an active timer first. If a move conflicts with a repetition change or pausing the routine, follow the message to check the reservation and effective date.
For routines with scheduled dates, open the reminder and schedule-exception section in routine settings to adjust one occurrence or a rest period.
Weekly and monthly reviews
- An ongoing period is counted through today. With no planned goals, the view shows No plans instead of a completion percentage. Flexible weekly and monthly goals are not counted again for every day.
- Compare focus time with the previous period, and expand the routine breakdown to find goals you want to adjust.
- Write one thing you want to change next period and save your review. Weekly and monthly notes are stored separately for each period.
- Continue using your daily and monthly quick records below. For longer writing or meeting notes, use the separate Daily notes menu.
Choose Weekly or Monthly in Records. Change the record date to see that period’s routine completions, focus time, recorded days, and focus time by project.
Quick access on each device
- Web: open Rhythm with Cmd or Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R while the tab is active.
- Desktop: while the app is running, the same shortcut works from other apps. Use the tray to start, pause, resume, or finish focus. Locking the app or signing out protects the session title and controls.
- Mobile: update to an app version that supports Rhythm widgets, then choose Tabple’s Rhythm widget from your home screen’s widget picker. Tap the widget to open Rhythm and record progress while signed in.
- Widgets may show the last synced state. Android shows the estimated end time and last update time. Open the app when you need the latest status.
- Starting a new focus session requires an online connection. If you pause or finish an already-started timer while offline, check its pending-save notice and complete saving after reconnecting.
